Peter Boyer’s training included work with two Academy Award-winning composers: John Corigliano in New York and Elmer Bernstein in Los Angeles. After completing his doctorate on the East Coast, Boyer relocated to Los Angeles to train in USC’s Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program. There he worked with Bernstein, who became a mentor, and also worked with composers such as David Raksin, Christopher Young, and “Disney Legend” Buddy Baker.

Boyer has worked on a variety of film, television, video, and interactive media projects as composer, orchestrator, arranger, or conductor. In recent years he has worked frequently as an orchestrator for Oscar-, Emmy-, Golden Globe- and Grammy-winning composer Michael Giacchino, and his principal orchestrator and conductor Tim Simonec. Other film and television composers for whom Boyer has orchestrated music include Mark Isham, John Ottman, Graeme Revell, Michael Wandmacher, Bill Conti, Mark Watters, and the late Michael Kamen. Boyer composed scores for four hour-long episodes of The History Channel series Engineering an Empire—episodes which focused on the empires of Carthage, Byzantium, Persia, and France.
