Peter Boyer’s Grammy-nominated work Ellis Island: The Dream of America will be performed for the first time at New York’s Carnegie Hall on October 7, 2017, on the debut concert of Orchestra Moderne NYC, conducted by its founder and music director Amy Andersson.
Titled “The Journey to America: From Repression to Freedom,” the program also includes Overture to Light by Lolita Ritmanis, the premiere of Steven Lebetkin’s Violin Concerto with soloist Momo Wong, and Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man.
Ellis Island will be the sixth work of Boyer’s to be performed at Carnegie Hall, since 1998, and by far the most ambitious. This will be the 174th performance of the work, premiered with the Hartford Symphony under Boyer’s direction in 2002. Ellis Island was recently filmed by PBS’ Great Performances series, to be telecast nationally in early 2018.
Tickets are available through the Carnegie Hall website here.
