American Mosaic, a 33-minute concert work by Peter Boyer for narrator and orchestra, with video by renowned Americana photographer Joe Sohm, has received numerous high-profile performances around the United States in 2026.
This collaborative work of Boyer and Sohm was jointly commissioned to celebrate “America 250,” the United States Semiquincentennial, by an extraordinary consortium of seven orchestras, including five of the major American orchestras:

American Mosaic has been performed at venues including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (with Thomas Wilkins conducting the NSO in the premiere), Cincinnati Music Hall, Segerstrom Concert Hall, The Henry Ford, the Iowa State Capitol, Colonial Williamsburg, and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts (with Gianandrea Noseda conducting the NSO).
Across more than 20 concert performances, including a Cincinnati Pops livestream and an Iowa PBS live telecast, the work has been experienced by a total combined audience of more than 150,000 people.

The work’s narrators have included Martin Sheen, Gary Sinise, Barry Bostwick, and Harry Smith (NBC News, CBS News). John Goodman will narrate the work with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in November 2026.
Sohm’s powerful imagery featured in American Mosaic was captured over more than 40 years, and includes all 50 of the United States. Boyer and Sohm have adapted and expanded American Mosaic into a 42-minute film, narrated by Martin Sheen. The score was recorded on the historic Sony Scoring Stage (formerly the MGM Scoring Stage) in Culver City, with the Hollywood Cinematic Orchestra, conducted by Boyer. The score was recorded and mixed by Shawn Murphy, longtime score engineer and producer for John Williams. The American Mosaic film will premiere at the Ojai Film Festival on November 4, 2026.
