On September 1, 2024, the National Symphony Orchestra performed Peter Boyer’s work Festivities as part of its annual Labor Day Weekend Concert at the United States Capitol. The conductor was Enrico Lopez-Yañez, who has conducted Boyer’ music many times in recent years. For this performance, narration from John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address was added, read by actress Felicia Curry.
This was the fourth performance of Boyer’s music by the NSO, and the fifth performance of his music at the Capitol, including for the inauguration of President Biden. Festivities was originally commissioned by Gerard Schwarz for the 50th anniversary of the Eastern Music Festival, and has been performed widely.
