On January 22, 2025, Peter Boyer’s Ellis Island: The Dream of America celebrated its milestone 300th performance, with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra conducted by its Associate Conductor Moon Doh at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts. This was the first of a pair of educational performances, and these were repeat performances for Ellis Island with the PSO, which had first presented the work in 2020. Boyer was in attendance for rehearsals and performances, working with the actors and orchestra, hosted by the PSO’s Senior Vice President of Learning and Community Engagement, Suzanne Perrino. Having premiered in 2002, Ellis Island is one of a very small number of 21st-century American orchestral works to reach the milestone of 300 performances. Photos by Alexis Wary, courtesy of the PSO.
