Peter Boyer conducted the premiere performance and a recording session of his work Festive Fanfare (For Akron’s Bicentennial) with the brass and percussion players of The Cleveland Orchestra.
The fanfare was commissioned by Tuesday Musical, which has been presenting concerts in Akron, Ohio since 1887. Boyer’s premiere was the centerpiece of an Akron Bicentennial Concert at EJ Thomas Hall on April 22, featuring The Cleveland Orchestra’s brass and percussion sections, under the direction of TCO Principal Trumpet Michael Sachs. The varied repertoire included major works by Grainger and Mussorgsky.
Following the premiere, Boyer conducted a recording session for his new fanfare with TCO brass and percussion at the renowned Severance Music Center, where countless iconic recordings have been made, over many decades. The recording producer was six-time Grammy winner Elaine Martone.
Press coverage of this project included articles in Cleveland Classical and the Akron Beacon Journal.
